    Soft copper coil

    Flexible pipe that bends around corners with fewer joints. Used for most split AC and smaller VRF branch lines.

  • 02

    Hard copper pipe

    Straight, rigid lengths for long, neat runs and larger pipe sizes, such as VRF main lines along risers and ceilings.

  • 03

    Pre-insulated pipe

    Copper pipe that comes with its insulation already fitted, which saves time on site and keeps the insulation even along the whole run.

What goes into good refrigerant piping?

  • 01

    Pipe sizes and lengths follow the AC or VRF maker's guide for that unit, so the system gets the refrigerant flow it was designed for.

  • 02

    Nitrogen flows through the pipe while each joint is brazed, so no black scale forms inside.

  • 03

    Both lines are insulated end to end, so the pipes don't sweat and drip, and cooling isn't lost on the way.

  • 04

    We fill the finished pipework with nitrogen under pressure and check that it holds, so leaks are found before any refrigerant goes in.

  • 05

    We pull a vacuum on the lines to remove air and moisture, which would otherwise harm the compressor and cut cooling.

VRF

VRF piping installation.

A VRF system runs one set of copper refrigerant lines through the whole building, branching to each floor and room through refnets and branch selectors. The pipe sizes change along the run, and every joint has to be right, because one leak affects the whole system. We plan the pipe routes with the VRF layout, then braze, insulate, pressure test and vacuum the full network before start-up. See our VRF systems page for the systems we supply and install.

Repairs

Replacing old or leaking AC pipes.

If an AC keeps losing gas, cools poorly, or its pipes are sweating and dripping, the copper piping is often the cause. We check the lines, find the leak, and repair or replace the old pipes, then pressure test and vacuum them before the system is charged again.

It depends on the unit's capacity and the length of the pipe run. Each AC and VRF maker publishes the pipe sizes for its units, and we follow that guide for every job.

Without nitrogen, brazing leaves black scale inside the pipe. The flakes can travel through the system and block valves and filters or wear the compressor. Nitrogen keeps the inside of the pipe clean.

Yes. Every installation is pressure tested with nitrogen and vacuumed before the system is charged.

Sometimes. If the old pipes are the right size, in good condition and pass a pressure test, they may be reused. If they leak, are the wrong size or are badly insulated, we recommend replacing them.

Uninsulated pipes sweat and drip water on walls and ceilings, and the refrigerant warms up before it reaches the room, so the AC cools less.

Yes. We supply the copper pipe and insulation for the job and install it, so one team is responsible for the whole pipework.
